Mission Trips

Our amazing group of youth has traveled the globe to reach out to others, while taking the opportunity to get educated on other cultures and people throughout the world.

Appalachia; Salyersville, KY
The Summer 2011 mission trip was to the South eastern Sandy Valley Region of Kentucky.  In Salyersville, the group of 5 worked underneath a home on the side of a mountain down in a hollar of KY.  They replaced rotted floor joists and beams and laid down sturdy flooring for the lady who lives in the home.  She no longer has to tread the floors of her home in fear.  She can walk confidently in her home.  Look us up in the coming months and plan to join us the Summer of 2012 for a mission trip.

Mexico
In 2010, the senior high and college youth traveled to "The Dump" in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to extend a hand in this impoverished community.

Appalachia
This 2009 trip allowed us to directly interact with folks in Appalachia while providing us with a greater understanding of their needs, hopes and dreams.

Louisville, Kentucky
Urban Spirit trip was in Louisville from June 15 - 21 in 2008. Our junior high youth assisted our neighbors with issues of community rebuilding.

Mississippi
Katrina Recovery in Mississippi Trip was from July 6 - 12 in 2008. Our senior high youth assisted with many displaced persons working to rebuild their lives.

Cayman Islands
On one trip an Epworth youth group went to the Cayman Islands to rebuild hurricane damage.

Gulf Coast
A different group went to the Gulf Coast help rebuild a community after Katrina.

Heifer International
Another group went to the headquarters of Heifer International to observe that worthy effort.

Liberia, Africa
Still others spent over a week in Liberia Africa building more school facilities for the UM mission there.

Evansville, Indiana
Finally a mixed youth/adult group went to the Evansville tornado area to help finish rebuilding Baker Chapel UM Church.

Ongoing Fundraiser: Ink Cartridges

Remember, we are still collecting ink cartridges for recycling. This helps both the environment and the treasury of the Youth Groups. Everyone, adults too, bring your ink cartridges (sorry, not laser cartridges yet) to the church and we'll get them where they need to go.

Food Bank Collections

Reminder, groceries are collected year-round for distribution to church neighbors at Brightwood, Fletcher Place, Vida Nueva, and other urban missions.

Ongoing Youth Mission

15 bags of food were delivered to East 10th Street UMC Food Bank for their needy neighbors. Several families came directly to Epworth for food bags. The Epworth Help Fund provides food to an average of 10 persons a month who come to directly to Epworth seeking food assistance. (Last year we provided 248 grocery bags of food to our inner-city pantries.)
